The Great Wall of China, a symbol of China’s historical strength and cultural heritage, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987; originally built as a series of fortifications, it served to protect against invasions, regulate trade along the Silk Road, and assert control over border territories during ancient times, and it remains significant today as a testament to ancient engineering, military strategy, and cultural unity over centuries.
